Introduction
Effective wastewater management is vital to Amherstburg's health, safety, and environmental sustainability. With a population of 23,000 and projected growth over the next two decades, the Town faces challenges in ensuring its wastewater infrastructure can meet future demands. To address these needs, Amherstburg is developing a Sanitary Master Plan to guide infrastructure improvements, support sustainable development, and maintain high service levels.
This Plan will provide a comprehensive framework for managing and enhancing the Town's wastewater systems, addressing environmental and operational challenges, and ensuring the system is prepared for future growth. Strategic planning and stakeholder input will be key to creating a roadmap that meets current needs and anticipates future demands, enabling Amherstburg to continue delivering high-quality services to its community.
Objective
The primary objective of the Sanitary Master Plan is to develop a long-term strategy for enhancing Amherstburg's wastewater infrastructure. The plan will focus on identifying system vulnerabilities, optimizing operations, and ensuring the infrastructure is resilient to growth and environmental changes.
Key goals include:
Improving wastewater service levels for residents and businesses.
Mitigating the risk of system overflows and failures.
Supporting growth and development in alignment with the Town's Official Plan.
Minimizing environmental impacts and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Expected Outcomes of the Sanitary Master Plan
Enhanced Infrastructure: Improved system performance to accommodate future population growth and ensure reliable service delivery.
Environmental Protection: Reduced risks of sewer overflows and discharges into local waterways, protecting water quality and ecosystems.
Sustainable Development: A comprehensive roadmap to guide infrastructure planning and investment, ensuring resilience and efficiency.
Community Engagement: Opportunities for residents and stakeholders to provide input and shape the future of wastewater management in Amherstburg.
