Jack Purdie Park Project
The park located at 609 Richmond Street was named "John (Jack) Purdie Park" through Bylaw no. 2274, passed in 1992. Jack Purdie was recognized for his devotion to many minor sports teams in Amherstburg and 40 years of service to the Royal Canadian Legion. Part of this was as Zone Commander and District Chairman and 11 years as president. Purdie fought with the Essex Kent Scottish Regiment in WWII. He served as Town Councilor for eight (8) years and was Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Committee for four (4) years.
Let's continue to mirror Jack Purdie's commitment to our Community when planning the next phase of this park's Lifecycle.
When viewing the plans for Jack Purdie Park, you may also want to consider the plans identified in the Centennial Park Project on Talk the Burg. These two parks are less than 0.8 kilometres from one another. To best accommodate our community's greatest needs, we have taken a strategic approach for the location of amenities to ensure we deliver fiscally responsible plans. All concept drawings can be viewed in the Documents Section of the project page.
